Nivan 2026: A Recap of the Innovation Conference Where Tech, AI, UX, and Design Met in Chicago
On May 21, 2026, a sold out room at the Institute of Design at Illinois Tech became proof of something I had believed for a long time. The people building the future of technology, artificial intelligence, user experience, and design do their best thinking when you put them in the same room and ask them to look backward, sit in the present, and reach forward together.
That was Nivan 2026. One day. One arc. Past, Present, Future. And the energy in that space is still with me.
What Nivan is
Nivan is an Innovation conference focused on Tech, AI, UX, and Design. It exists for the practitioners and leaders who refuse to treat those fields as separate islands, because the most interesting work is happening exactly where they overlap. The theme that holds it all together is simple: Innovating Across Time, Together.
The day by the numbers

Our speakers came from across the spectrum of how innovation actually gets built and shipped, including Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft, Walmart, United Airlines, AbbVie, GE Healthcare, Geico, and the City of Chicago. Researchers, designers, engineers, and leaders, side by side, comparing notes on the questions that keep them up at night.
The Past, Present, Future arc
We did not want a day of disconnected talks. We wanted a story. So the program moved deliberately through time.
The Past sessions grounded us in how we got here, the decisions and patterns that shaped the tools we now take for granted. The Present sessions confronted the hardest questions of this moment, especially around human judgment in an AI first world. The Future sessions asked the room to imagine, and then commit to, what we want to build next.
The signature experiences
Talks set the tone, but Nivan is built to be felt, not just watched. Four experiences made the day unmistakably ours.
Creative Duel put ideas in friendly competition and let the room watch creativity happen live. Innovation Portals invited attendees to step into focused, immersive moments throughout the venue. Time Capsule asked everyone to capture where they stand right now, so a future version of themselves can look back. Message to Future let each person write forward to the person they are becoming.
These are the moments people are still talking about, and they are the reason Nivan is more than a conference. It is a shared marker in time.
